About UsTaoMountain is a resource for teachers, students, practitioners, and academic researchers of Thai massage and traditional Thai medicine. Our mission is to educate the wider community about these modalities as serious traditional medical disciplines. Our Members Area maintains a virtual library of research into the history, theory, and practice of Thai healing traditions, and keeps the Thai practitioner and teacher community up to date on relevant articles, publications and multimedia materials. Our director, Pierce Salguero, is an academic researcher of Thai and other Asian medical traditions at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. We would like to know how
we can best help you to incorporate more Thai culture, traditional
medical theory, and historical awareness into your practice
and courses. Our educational materials, online resources,
and courses (correspondence and on-location) are all geared
toward this goal.
With this in mind, our organization is attempting to bring practitioners, teachers, and researchers together in a forum for discussion of these important topics. TM's focus is on education and educational materials. As our organization has evolved, we have endeavored to broadly represent our membership’s interests, while continuing to provide the high quality resources that have earned us our leadership role in the field of Thai medical studies.
How to Get Involved We provide continuing education opportunities through courses, correspondence, our web Resources, publications, conventions, and other venues, and — whether you are a student, teacher, or practitioner — we hope to inspire you to through stimulating conversation, continuing dialogue, and a spirit of openness. Please get involved! Contact us with your ideas, comments, and feedback. We are especially interested in reaching out to people who are able to travel to Thailand for longer periods of time and work closely with individual Thai practitioners, and who are motivated to bring this knowledge back to the West, to write academic articles, and/or to develop courses in these modalities. We are also extremely interested in attracting individuals who speak Thai and can assist with translation projects. Please take a look at Shivago.org to see information about getting a grant to travel to Thailand for research, study, and charity projects. Our organization is a collaborative effort. We believe that we must come together in a non-competitive, intellectually honest manner to share our knowledge with each other. We are interested in fostering an environment which genuinely embodies the spirit of metta, or loving-kindness, which is the foundation of the practice of Thai medicine. We invite all of you to keep in touch, and continue to use our website as a resource, as a learning tool, and as a community, and to help us fulfill this mission. Please join our efforts, and become part of the future of Thai medicine. You can access information on joining as a General Member. | |||||||||||||
